Launched in 2020, French brand COG offers vegan-friendly sneakers as well as formal shoes. Focusing on respect for animals, humans and the environment, COG aims to offer an eco-friendly alternative to animal leather. Their designs have been featured in many French magazines.
About the Founder
Camara Omar Gwenhaël is COG's founder, who has lent his initials to the brand to realize his dream: to create high quallity fashion items that combine design, comfort and ethics, respectful of both life and the planet.
"The value of an object is not its rarity, but the ethical concern invested in its manufacture."
Materials
COG works with planet-friendly grape leather Vegea, as well as cork, and recycled fibres such as recycled plastic and rubber. Many of their materials are OEKO TEX-certified. All their components, such as zippers and glues, are sourced with the environment in mind and are 100% vegan.
People
The brand's production takes place in Portugal, and it's crucial to the founders that the workers in the supply chain are paid a living wage, that they work in safe conditions, and that their knowledge is appreciated.
Production
COG aims to produce as locally as possible, which is one of the reasons why the brand has chosen to do their manufacturing in Portugal. The founders frequently visit the facilities, check conditions and speak to workers. COG also frequently audits its carbon emissions to minimise their impact.
Packaging
All COG designs come in a reusable, biodegradable linen pouch, and wrapped in eco-friendly tissue paper. The sticker on the paper is recycled, and the box the shoes come in is both recycled and recyclable.
Animals
COG is a PETA-Approved Vegan brand, and takes great care to ensure that every small component, down to the glue, is free from animal-derived ingredients.
