Your Spring Wardrobe Starts Here

We sure have had to wait for spring this year: cold snaps in many countries have brought a prolonged winter, with cold-weather coats, hats, and scarves sticking around longer than usual. But now spring has finally sprung - and it's time to shed the layers in favour of lighter, brighter, more optimistic fashion.

By Sascha Camilli: writer, speaker, activist, and vegan fashion expert.

A mainstay in a great spring wardrobe is the all-time classic: the biker jacket. Is there anything more liberating than putting away the winter coat and slipping into a biker? And with vegan leather skyrocketing in quality, we've never been more spoiled for choice. Get your new favourite at Issy London or Culthread, and make it a spring staple – you won't regret it.

We sure won't miss heavy knits, especially not when floaty, carefree tops are on the cards instead. To maximise that spring feeling, go for demure florals from Baukjen, a crochet tank from Minuit Sur Terre, or a colourful style from KOMODO.

When it comes to dresses, spring can be a tricky time. It's not yet the season for short sleeves or going sleeveless – but those long months of knit dresses are also a thing of the past. The solution lies in a lightweight yet structured cotton, linen or Tencel design - and as temperatures creep upwards, try the floatier ECOVERO material. Baukjen and KOMODO are your go-to names here.

As for accessories, use the lighter mornings and evenings (how great are those, by the way?) to add a subtle touch of colour to your outfits with a pastel-hued bag from Miomojo or Mela. If ever there was a perfect time to step away from black and move towards a hint of hue, this is it.

And speaking of adding colour, why not choosing a shoe that packs some punch? Momoc's statement pieces will not go unnoticed. But if you're more for erring on the side of neutrals, spring is the perfect time for crisp, white sneakers. Humans Are Vain offer a range of minimalist designs which often incorporate recycled materials. With these on your feet, it will be like winter was never here.

Of course, as sunny days take over, it's time to bring the sunglasses back from hiding. Choose an eco-friendly pair in wood from Bird or go for an eco-friendly bio-acetate style from Pala to let your style shine bright this spring – all while supporting brands who work hard to minimise their impact on the planet.
